Claudio Villagra started his artistic career at very young age. His first steps were introduced by his grandfather Hector Contrera, followed by other significant maestros who contributed to his studies and training such as Antonio Todaro, Pepito Avellaneda, Cacho Dinzel, and N. Guichanduc among others. He started at the most prestigious tango shows of Buenos Aires (Casa Blanca, La Ventana, Michelangelo, El Viejo Almacen, El Querandi) then focused on his international career dancing on major stages throughout the world including the “Walter Kerr and Marquis” on Broadway, and the Olimpia, Colon, Luna Park, and Astral theaters in Paris. In Mexico performed at the Auditorio Nacional and Bellas Artes, returning to Argentina for shows at the Cervantes theater. Mr. Villagra performances were accompanied by world-known orchestras such as Osvaldo Pugliesse, Marano Mores, Sexteto Sur, El Arranque, Color Tango, Sextator Mayor, Sexteto Milonguero, and Los Solitas de D’Arienzo. His talent proved to be worthy of leading roles in distinguished international companies, where he also choreographed and co-directed like “Tango Seduccion”, “Tanguera”, “Malambo”, ‘Tango Argentino, and Forever Tango, being the marketing image of the show. Nowadays, along with Helena Fernandez , an outstanding tango dancer, Claudio formed one of the most respected partnerships of Argentine Tango. Globally recognized as “Los Villagra”, they have become a benchmark of the highest level of tango of their generation. Their artistic versatility allows them to perform diverse styles, covering the traditional and the most innovative concepts.
Classical dancer since she was 3 years old, Helena Fernandez won her dancing degree in the Royal Academy of Dance in London. After 29 years of dedication, she turned into an expert dancer and choreographer in classical ballet, jazz, ballroom, samba, and flamenco. Her years living in Buenos Aires were an intense preparation to become the Argentine Tango reference of today. Her tango, known for her feline moves, earned her the name “La Pantera” (The Panther). While in Argentina she seized the opportunity to work and learn from the authorities, maestros such as Turco Jose, Carlos Gavito, Julio Balmaceda, Roberto Herrera, Jorge Dispari, Facundo Posadas, Gustavo Naveira, Jorge Torres, and Jorge Firpo. Former physiotherapist with a major in neurological patients, Helena still applies her experience teaching in courses and workshops throughout the world, mostly in women technique concepts. She performed in a variety of TV shows, and as a model her face was the advertisement for many campaigns. Her resume shows her as the lead dancer at the MSC Cruise Tango Edition, shows in stages like Leicester Square and Lotte Concert Hall, guest judge in tango competitions in Europe, Asia, and South America. Currently Helena works alongside her husband Claudio Villagra, one of the biggest names in Argentine Tango.
