City Style Tango has an amazing team of teachers to cover your every dance need. Not only are our teachers trained in multiple styles, but we also have the following specialists: Argentine Tango, West Coast Swing, Salsa, Bachata, Zouk, Ballroom, Flamenco, and International.
Meet James Valentino
James has been dancing professionally since 1998. Though he teaches American smooth and rhythm, he is widely known for his Argentine tango. He has competed in various celebrity dance benefits, in which he is a three-time winner, and also offers lessons for anyone who wants to learn this exciting sport.
Meet Jonathan Welly
Jonathan teaches ballroom and Latin dance. He also competes in the professional open rhythm category with his partner Trish Stuckey. Teaching is his passion and he enjoys having clients of all skill levels from the very beginner to the experienced competitor. While he spends most of his time training for competitions and teaching lessons, you can often find him in a local Salsa club or Ballroom Social dance event so make sure to ask him for a dance when you see him!
Meet Chris & Melissa Moy
Known for their entertaining style and emotionally captivating musicality, Chris and Melissa Moy are premier West Coast Swing Dance Instructors in the Ann Arbor and Metro Detroit area. They offer a unique teaching experience focused on technique, purposeful practice and fun all while adapting their instruction technique to each student and fostering each dancer’s unique style. Melissa and Chris enjoy coaching competitors as much as they enjoy teaching beginners and offer a wide variety of learning experiences. As two of the original members of the Ann Arbor Swing Society, they are enthusiastic about competing, teaching, traveling and dancing with one of Michigan’s newest WCS clubs.
Meet Jacob Reves
Winner of many European championships throughout his career, Jacob is bringing his expertise in American and International styles of dance to City Style Tango. Jacob offers ballroom coaching, instruction and detailed clean-up coaching.
Meet Lisa Montes
Lisa Montes began studying and performing Spanish dancing at the age of seven with her grandmother, Dame Maria del Carmen. She is highly trained in the classical, regional and flamenco dances of Spain. Highlights of her career include dancing with the Michigan Opera Theater in Bizet’s Carmen and performing with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in their presentation of the music of Manuel de Falla. She has performed and taught in the UK and with Henry Ford Community College’s Full Circle Dance Company in 2011. She has recorded and performed with Sean Blackman’s highly regarded In Transit. In the U.S. and in her annual travels to Spain, Lisa has studied with various masters of Spanish dance including, Estefanía Martínez, Raimundo Benítez, and Ana Calí. Although inspired by many of the greats of Spanish dance, her truest inspiration will always be her grandmother.
Meet Victoria Lara
Victoria Lara’s career began with formal Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Middle Eastern and Gymnastic training. She went on to compete in Dance Masters of America competitions winning over-all and first place trophies. Later she joined the Windsor City Ballet for a season of the nutcracker. Victoria joined Dame Maria Del Carmen’s “Grupo Espana” in 1992 and under her instruction she has performed professionally as one of the principal dancers. She was once called a “prodigy” of Flamenco. Victoria has also studied with La Monica, Victorio, Vida Peral and Paco Alonso.
Meet Andres Magia
Andres brings 15 years experience teaching and performing rhythm dances, such as bachata, salsa, and cha cha. He is known for his bachata fusions where he combines salsa, kizomba, and Argentine tango into bachata movements.
Meet Guillermo Moreno
Guillermo has been dancing tango for about 20 yrs. during this time he has developed a fluid, sensual, graceful and charismatic style that combine the traditional classic tango salon with interesting and dynamic features of tango nuevo. Guillermo has been teaching tango for about seven years - focusing on technique based on a sensitive connection between the couples with musicality as a frame. During workshops, he incorporates useful dance exercises to complement better body language. He uses technique to supply necessary energy to harmonize dance movements. Guillermo has been taking workshops with Mariano (chicho) Frumboli, Sebastian Arce, Horacio Godoy, Roberto Herrera, Pablo Veron, Alejandra Mantinan, Susana Miller, and Guillermina Quiroga. Meet Amy Tranchida
Amy brings 36 years of experience, a diverse dance background, and a great sense of humor to her classes. She teaches seventeen Ballroom and Rhythm dance styles–and also offers a Latin Dance Workout class. Beyond her group and private lessons, she often works with wedding couples and wedding parties, guest teaches at dance intensives, and is hired for choreography for numerous performance projects. Amy has been classically trained for 16 years in ballet, tap and jazz dance. She was a member of the Romeo Civic Ballet Company for 6 years and Amy has also studied and instructed African Dance at Prescott College in Prescott, AZ. In addition, she has taught Hatha Yoga for the past 26 years. Amy holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Goddard College, a BA in Creative Writing and Literature with a minor in Performing Arts from Prescott College, and teaches various English, Literature, and Argument and Research classes at Macomb Community College. Amy offers both private and group lessons, as well as various dance and writing workshops across Metro Detroit. She celebrates moments of discovery, explores the globe every chance she gets, and writes about what connects us all: LOVE.
Meet Erin Rea
Erin has been teaching professionally for about 3 years and is now a certified instructor in Argentine Tango through DVIDA. She is continuing to train and study to further her certification. In addition to Argentine Tango, she also teaches ballroom dance, focusing on social dancing. She has been involved in various competitions: Michigan Dance Challenge and Motown Showdown, and performed at events such as: Royal Oak's Arts, Beats, & Eats, Community Theater projects, and City Style Tango showcases & events. Erin also works as studio manager of City Style Tango. In addition, she is a certified yoga instructor (200hr yoga teacher certification).

Meet Natalka Cap
Natalka is Detroit's only 2-time World & U.S. Pro-Am American Rhythm and Mambo Champion. She shares dance resources, grooming tips for women and men, information and inspiration for the social and competitive dancer through her website www.natalkadance.com .
In addition to being a dancesport competitor, Natalka is a Registered Nurse and represents her personal initiative Dancing for Diabetes to promote dance as a form of exercise to help orevent diabetes and its complications. Natalka is the creator of Latin locomotion class which she teaches on Tuesday evenings at Granklin Club in Southfield.
Meet Christy Cote
Christy Cote has been teaching dance for more than 34 years, specializing in Argentine Tango for the past 17. One of the most respected teachers and choreographers of Argentine Tango in the U.S. today, in 2012 she became the first ever American judge for the USA Tango Championships, an annual event sanctioned by the Argentine Government. Christy’s teaching method has been published in the Argentine Tango Manual by Dance Vision and Christy is also a DVIDA National Examiner. Over the past 10 years, Christy and performance partner Darren Lees of San Diego have performed at numerous events including NCL’s Tango at Sea Cruises, TANGO X 3 at San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts, the 49er’s Half Time Show, MonTango U.S. tours. Christy is one of the founding members & choreographers of the all female tango company, Tango Con*Fusion.
