James Valentino

James Valentino is competitive/social dancer, teacher, coach, choreographer, and studio owner. He is the founder of City Style Tango and is known for his passion for dance, Argentine tango in particular.
He achieved associate dance degrees in smooth and rhythm ballroom dance, with a high honors associate degree in Argentine tango.
James has competed in the Argentine Tango USA Championships, placed in Detroit's Champion of the Dance Floor, won the Michigan Dance Challenge Argentine Tango Championship, won several Dancing with the Local Stars events, and has received several awards for best studio and wedding choreography.

Amy Tranchida

Ballroom, Rhythm & Swing Dance Instructor
Amy Tranchida brings 38 years of experience, a diverse dance background, and a great sense of humor to her classes. She has been classically trained for 16 years in ballet, tap, and jazz dance. She was a member of the Romeo Civic Ballet Company for 6 years and Amy has also studied and instructed African Dance at Prescott College in Prescott, Arizona.
Currently, Amy teaches eighteen Ballroom and Rhythm dance styles -- Waltz, Tango, Argentine Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, Quickstep, Salsa, Mambo, Merengue, Cha-Cha, Rumba, Samba, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Night Club Two-Step, Polka, Country Two-Step, and Hustle -- and also offers Latin Dance Workout classes.
Beyond her group and private lessons, she often works with wedding couples and wedding parties, guest teaches at dance intensives, holds workshops at private or corporate events, and is hired for choreography for numerous performance projects.
As a dancer and dance instructor, Amy shares her passion and respect for the art form. She helps students to discover the joy of movement and the fun of building new skills. Her teaching method is supportive, celebratory, and thorough. She offers the tips and techniques to ensure student progress and build life long learning.

Arlette Ramirez Miranda

Arlette was born in Lima ,Peru. She has been social dancing and dancing folk dances since she was a child as part of her culture. She migrated to the U.S several years ago and worked with kids teaching Latin dances and Peruvian folk dances in New York. After moving to Michigan, she has had the opportunity to work in different dance studios and explore more styles of dance. She improved her partner dancing, performed with different partners, and competed in Salsa and Argentine Tango. She has also been a Zumba and Aquazumba instructor for 3 years, teaches Beginner Bachata, Salsa, Merengue, and Argentine Tango and is still looking to improve and train to become a better dancer in order to educate herself and students. “Dancing is an expression of how we are feeling to the music, if you get to know it, you will like to learn more about it and enjoy every moment.”

Melissa & Chris Moy

Known for their entertaining style and emotionally captivating musicality, Chris and Melissa Moy are premier West Coast Swing Dance Instructors in the Ann Arbor and Metro Detroit area. Melissa and Chris have recently added Zouk to their teaching repertoire, offering a social style of Zouk instruction. In either dance, they offer a unique teaching experience focused on technique, purposeful practice and fun all while adapting their instruction technique to each student and fostering each dancer’s unique style. As two of the original members of the Ann Arbor Swing Society, they are enthusiastic about growing Swing and Zouk around Michigan and forming relationships with other dance communities. Chris and Melissa Moy are pleased to offer their instruction services for workshops, private lessons, group lessons, choreography and demonstrations.
Melissa and Chris can be regularly found teaching at Ann Arbor Swing Society’s 1st and 3rd Monday Night Swing Dance in Ann Arbor and on the 3rd Friday @City Style Tango in Troy.

Meredith Gagnier

Is a DVIDA certified pro/am competitive teacher and professional dance competitor. She began dancing at the age of three studying jazz, tap, ballet, and contemporary styles of dance. While in high school, Meredith danced competitively for a nationally recognized dance studio. Meredith studied dance at Western Michigan University and became a certified ballroom dance instructor after graduation. She continued her education working as an instructor at Chicago’s famous dance studio, Chicago Dance under World Theatre Arts Champions Tommye Giacchino and Gregory Day. After moving back to Michigan, Meredith worked as a choreographer and principal dancer for a music video called “Let’s Mambo” by Sean Forbes, which stars Academy Award Winning Actress Marlee Matlin and Professional Dancer Fabian Sanchez from ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. Meredith enjoys working with dancers of all ages and skill levels. She loves to teach because dance has been her long time passion, and she cannot imagine doing anything else. Meredith’s greatest joy is watching others fall in love with dancing just like she did. She believes there is nothing more rewarding than watching even the most “dance-challenged“ individual turn into a winner on the dance floor, whose newfound confidence and style can light up an entire room.

Tino Maggio

Tino began dancing the day after his 5th birthday. Today he is one of the most sought after coaches in the business. Being the son of World Champion parents, Tino became a World Professional Ballroom and Latin Champion himself at the 2010 Astaire World Championships in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is very proud to be the only Professional World Champion in Michigan. In June of 2018, he also became a Grand Finalist at the World Peabody Championships in San Diego, California. He has been a member of the National Dance Council of America since 1982, is certified in all levels and all styles of every Ballroom and Latin dance, and has accumulated over 150 First Place Top Teacher Awards in his illustrious career. Tino is a Certified Adjudicator and is a 4-Time United States National Open Professional American Style Smooth & Rhythm Champion, capturing 113 Open Professional Smooth & Rhythm Championships across North America. After high school, Tino attended the University of Michigan where he studied dance with their dance team, the Amazin’ Blues. Many years later, he returned to U of M to become the Coach for their Ballroom Dance Team, and lead them to several National Championship titles. In 2004, Tino was asked to become a United States Olympic team coach/choreographer for an Olympic bound Ice Dancer who ultimately competed at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. Tino represented Detroit on the internationally acclaimed TV show “Dance Fever”, as well as having gotten the chance to perform with Juliet Prowse on the international TV show “Championship Ballroom Dancing”. He has been coached his entire career by the best in the business….the incomparable Sam Sodano. While Tino enjoys working with students of every background and level, his favorite part of dancing is competing. “There’s nothing like taking a student from their first steps on the dance floor, to a Top Student Award at a major competition. To watch someone grow, not only as a dancer, but as a person in that period of time is what drives me as an instructor. Just be careful….if you tell me you want to be a Champion, I’m going to be aggressively motivating you to help make it happen”. Tino currently runs the largest Dance Partner Search page on Facebook with over 20,000 members.
When not in the studio, Tino is also a Professional Show Dog Trainer and Handler as well as a licensed Real Estate Agent with a Master’s degree in Real Estate Marketing.
